Parent/Guardian of a sixth grade student:
To help protect your children and others from whooping cough, California law requires students to be vaccinated against whooping cough.
During the school year 2024-25, all 6th grade students will need proof of an adolescent whooping cough booster shot (Tdap). This MUST be done or we cannot do anything to transfer your child’s records to start their registration and class planning for next school year. By law, students who do not have proof of receiving a Tdap booster shot will not be able to go onto middle school. The requirement may be met with a vaccine containing pertussis, received anytime on or after the student’s 7th birthday. The tetanus-diphtheria booster shot, Td, will not meet the requirement. We want to make sure your child is able to transition onto 7th grade on time, so urge you to:
1. Get your child’s Tdap shot now.
A large number of students need a Tdap shot between now and the end of this school year. Make an appointment with your child’s doctor or clinic for them to get a Tdap booster. Avoid the year-end rush. We understand some people are concerned about going into medical facilities during this time of Covid, so we urge you to speak with the staff at your child’s medical provider about their practices.
2. Bring proof of immunization to your child’s school.
You will need to provide proof of your child’s immunization in order for the district to start the process of transferring them to middle school. Please bring proof of immunization to your child’s school as soon as they receive it. Your child may have already received this vaccine, but it is not in our records. If you are unsure if they have received it, please call your child’s medical provider. If they have received it, please obtain an updated record for yourself and the school.

Con el fin de proteger a nuestros hijos y otros niños de la tos ferina, la ley de California requiere que los estudiantes se vacunen contra la tos ferina.
